This fall, Habitat for Humanity is inviting women from across our community to come together, support affordable homeownership, learn new skills, and build a home for a local family.
Whether you’ve never picked up a hammer or you’re a seasoned DIYer, there is a place for you here!

What is the Women Build?

The Women’s Build is a project led by women from all walks of life — professionals, stay-at-home moms, retirees, college students, and every woman in between — who believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

Register as an individual or gather your girls to form a team. You’ll create your own fundraising page, invite others to support your efforts, and then roll up your sleeves alongside a community of women as we build a home together. No construction experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm, your heart, and a willingness to make a difference.

Who does Habitat build for?

Our homes are built for individuals and families who have a demonstrated need for housing, can pay an affordable mortgage, and are willing to partner with us to help build homes & take classes to prepare them to be successful homeowners. Habitat offers our neighbors in need a hand up – not a hand out – and empowers them to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

When is the deadline to register?
  • The fundraiser officially closes on December 31st and you can sign up to raise funds up to that date.
  • The registration deadline to be guaranteed a SWAG Bag is August 11th.
  • Later registrations will receive freebies as long as they are available.
Is there a minimum amount I need to raise? What if I don’t meet my fundraising goal?
  • We have a suggested per person goal of $300, but this can be changed when you register to be as modest or ambitious as you like.
  • If the thought of fundraising feels a little intimidating, don’t let that stop you! While we encourage every participant to share their fundraising page and invite others to support the build, there is no penalty if you don’t reach your goal. Habitat has always been about bringing people together to build stronger communities, and that’s exactly what Women Build is all about. Whether you raise $20 or $2,000, we’re grateful to have you as part of this incredible community of women making a difference.

Are donations tax deductible? Where exactly does the money go?
  • Yes! GLHFH is a 501(c)(3), so gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law and donors will get an emailed tax receipt.
  • All funds raised through the Women Build are restricted and will only be used for the construction of this home. If we raise more than what is needed for this project, the funds will be used in the construction of another Habitat home.
Can I still volunteer on this build if I don’t want to fundraise? Can I fundraise without volunteering or attending events?
  • Habitat is always eager to welcome new volunteers to our construction site! However, Women Build events (Habi-Hour, Wall Raising Day, Women Build Luncheon) and SWAG Bags are only available for Women Build fundraisers.
  • We welcome anyone to register who only wants to be involved as a fundraiser! All events and volunteer opportunities are optional, BUT we hope we see you! The magic of the Women Build is truly in the community we build together.
Is there a minimum age to participate?
  • All volunteers must be at least 18 to join us on the construction site. This includes attendance at Habi-Hour since we will have construction demonstrations at this event.
  • If you are under 18, you are welcome to sign up as a fundraiser and attend our luncheon in December.
  • We will send announcements when opportunities for younger volunteers are available.
I’ve never even held a hammer! Can I still volunteer and what should I expect at the construction site?
  • Worry not! No experience is necessary to volunteer with Habitat. We have skilled volunteers and professionals who will teach you what you need to know. We will also have demonstrations at Habi-Hour where you can try your hand at a few new skills!
  • More details about what to expect at the site will be included in our volunteer communications. In the meantime, you can head to lynchburghabitat.org/volunteer to learn more.
What is the difference between signing up as a team versus an individual?
  • The Women Build is ALL about community, and inviting the women in your life to join you makes this process even more special. Girls’ night out certainly has its perks, but changing a life together is priceless!
  • When you register as part of a team, you still create your own unique page and set your own personal goal. On our leaderboard, you and your teammates will be listed under your team name and your personal goals will be added together and displayed as the Team Goal.

Ready to join the party?

We’re ready to welcome the women of Lynchburg (and beyond) to this unforgettable, life changing, better world building community!
  • If you believe that we’re stronger together than we are on our own
  • If you’ve been searching for a meaningful way to give back, connect with incredible women, and make a lasting impact in our community
  • If you’re the kind of woman who believes everyone deserves a safe haven to call home—and is ready to roll up her sleeves to help make it happen

If this sounds like you, then you belong here.

Whether you register on your own or start a team, you’ll be joining a community of women who are building more than a house. Together, we’re opening the door to hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for a local family.
Sign up today, and let’s build something incredible—together.
