Volunteer with Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity

In Lynchburg, thousands of our neighbors face unaffordable, unsafe, or unstable housing. Many forego basic healthcare, adequate nutrition, and educational opportunities just to afford a place to live.

That’s where you come in.

We believe everyone should have a decent place to call home, and we invite you to be part of the volunteer team that can make that happen. Every week, whether we’re swinging a hammer on the job site, working in the ReStore, or leading and advocating for us in the community – we are working together to build a better world.

We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and skill level, and no experience is needed. We have a skilled crew and professionals on-site and in the ReStore who will train you on anything you need to know. Whether you’re a group seeking team-building opportunities or an individual who wants to give back, there is something for you here.

Your first step toward building a better world is right here!

Volunteer Together

Some of our favorite days on the construction site and in the ReStore are when we get to welcome volunteer groups from local organizations. Serving together is an incredible way to bond with your team and there’s even research that shows that teams that serve together have higher retention rates and members are more engaged.

But don’t take our word for it – Jeff Spaeth, President of Aerofin, scheduled nine volunteer dates for his team over the summer. 63 Aerofin employees volunteered more than 400 hours on our construction site!

Jeff had this to say about the impact of their service at work,
“It’s brought a sense of togetherness. Some of the people volunteering never get a chance to work together at the office or in the shop, so there is a greater sense of community when we are all back at work.”

Marsha Gaines of Genworth, another frequent corporate volunteer partner and home sponsor, says that
“The ability for our Genworth teams to step from behind their computers and get outside and have the opportunity to use our physical skills to help the community, and standing elbow to elbow with the homeowner truly is a day well spent. It’s a great time for our staff to see where our dollars are helping in the community and to see the homeowners physically vested in their homes.”

Contact Kathryn Giese, Outreach & Volunteer Manager, by email at volunteer@glhfh.org or at (434) 528-3774 for more information about arranging a group day. We will walk you through every step to have a great volunteer experience!
