Sponsors

Over the past 18 years Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity has built 267 homes with the cooperation of housing sponsors. To be a sponsor the only requirement is to budget for a donation for either a complete house, or a partial sponsorship which would consist of a significant donation to be coupled with other like donations to build a house for a family in need.

Today, full sponsorships cost about $60,000.  Many times businesses, churches, and individuals partner with one another to fund a house and use this opportunity to work to build stronger relationships or even a bit of competition between them. Some of our sponsors are:

Genworth Financial

Genworth Financial along with agencies within the Lynchburg community who work with citizens with disabilities, partnered with Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity to build the Genworth Special Build house.  The project focused on the posibilities that each person has to work together to build.

Each Special Builder was partnered with a Genworth employee volunteer on Wednesday and Saturday from April, 2006 until the house was dedicated in July, 2006.   Greater Lynchburg Habitat extends to Genworth Financial and everyone there who worked on this project a great deal of thanks for helping us build a house for the Cranford family.  Click here to see the build!

AREVA NP, Inc.

During some of the hottest weather on record in Lynchburg, the AREVA employees spent 12 days building a 4 bedroom house with Yvonne White and her family.  The house accommodates 3 boys and a girl plus mom and dad.  The AREVA volunteers worked with determination to build this beautiful ranch-style house.  We extend to the employees of AREVA our thanks for working through the hot days to help another family achieve the dream of home ownership.

BWX Technologies

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of providing employment and economic enhancement to the Lynchburg area, BWXT has partnered with Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity to help build the 250th Habitat home in Lynchburg.  The house located on Wise Street is a beautiful 2-story which the volunteers at BWXT have worked on each Saturday since August 5, 2006.  The dedication took place on October 21, 2006 with the Moorman family and the countless BWXT volunteers who have helped continue the tradition of caring that BWXT exemplifies in our community.   Some of the pictures from this milestone build are here.

Nationwide Insurance

As a result of a corporate grant throughout the U.S., the Nationwide Insurance employees in Lynchburg worked together to help build a home with the Skinner family on Polk Street.  The house is a 2-story beauty that sits in a neighborhood of other Habitat homes.  The employees at Nationwide are working hard to help the Skinner family achieve their dream and we are indebted to them for their generosity.  On Saturday, November 3, 2006 the employees and the Skinner family joined together to celebrate the dedication of this beautiful house.  We extend to the Nationwide employees, in Lynchburg, our heartfelt thanks for helping us celebrate this wonderful occasion.

And here is the build, as told through pictures!

Lynchburg College

The students, faculty and staff at Lynchburg are still in the fundraising stages to help raise money to build a house with the Walker family.  Renee and Donald Walker have worked at L.C. for many years and have qualified for homeownership.  The building site is within walking distance to the college, at 109 Hood Street, this will allow the entire school to participate in this wonderful opportunity.

Renee and Donald have moved into their new home.  The dedication took place on Saturday, May 5, 2007.  Fundraising for this project is ongoing, if you wish to donate to this building project, please do so by going to our donate page.

T.A.C -- Timberlake Area Churches

If you have prayerfully considered the idea of sponsoring a Habitat house and if you have gathered specific information about what is required, begin talking with your congregation.

Greater Lynchburg Habitat will establish a restricted account for your church's monthly donation toward a building project.  Consider forming a partnership and building a house for a family in need together -- just like the Timberlake Area Churches did in 2007.

Sponsoring a house requires the work of many people, with various abilities.  Building a house with GLHFH demonstrates faith in action.  From Vision to Action -- seeing the vision and hearing the call.

2007 Blitz Build
