As a Christian Housing Ministry, Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity in Lynchburg, Virginia will provide low-income families with opportunities and tools to be successful homeowners. About Lynchburg Habitat for HumanityGreater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat For Humanity International and was established in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1988. Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian Ministry that builds, high quality, decent, affordable housing in partnership with God’s people in need. Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity has built 267 new homes, housed over 300 adults and over 500 children. The process of building homes for qualified families continues through the generosity of the Lynchburg business community, churches in the area and local benefactors. The mission of Habitat for Humanity is not just building houses but building lives and communities one house at a time. Habitat for Humanity International has partnered with various large corporations such as the Whirlpool Corporation. Through their generosity, a new stove and refrigerator are donated to each new Habitat home in the United States and Canada, this translates into a commitment of over $25 million dollars - thank you Whirlpool. The team of cadets worked to build with the Moorman family. Plans are in the works for the cadets to march as part of the house dedication ceremony, slated for May, 2008. Greater Lynchburg Habitat is partnering with Wiley & Wilson & Bank of America, to build the first Green Construction Habitat house in Lynchburg!! Representative teams from Kent High School, the University of Pennsylvania, North Central College, and William Patterson University spent their Spring Breaks building at 206 Chambers Street -- the 2008 Collegiate Challenge house! Worth Magazine RatingOf the 800,000 public charities in the United States, Worth Magazine rates Habitat for Humanity as one of the top 100 non-profits which makes the greatest impact with donors’ money – on a dollar for dollar comparison. In a Donor Approval Poll conducted by Campbell Research, Inc. Habitat for Humanity was named as one of five Christian ministries considered by donors to be “doing the best job”. The Donor Approval Poll surveyed Americans who have donated to Christian charities within the last two years to determine which organizations are considered to be the best in accomplishing their faith-based mission. Currently Habitat for Humanity has affiliates in more than 3,000 communities in 87 nations and will have partnered to build with families in over 250,000 houses with no-profit, and zero-interest mortgages.
